Kamala Harris Kicks Off US Senate Campaign With Private Fundraiser In San Francisco
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- State Attorney General Kamala Harris has officially kicked off her 2016 campaign for the U.S. Senate seat that'll be vacated by Barbara Boxer.
Harris held an event Wednesday night in San Francisco, where she once served as District Attorney.
But the media was not allowed inside and Harris did not speak with reporters.
Some critics say the state Democratic party has anointed Harris.
Latino leaders in particular say potential Latino candidates, including LA mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, have been snubbed.
Her supporters say otherwise.
"I don't think she's been anointed," Congressman Mike Honda said. "She's earned it, and she's earned it the hard way."
So far, Harris is the only Democrat to announce her intention to run for the seat next year.
