Jenner Responds To Viral 'Kylie Jenner Challenge' That Has Girls Swelling Their Lips, Risking Disfigurement

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A viral video of teenaged girls taking on the Kylie Jenner Challenge and swelling their lips is raising concerns because of the potential danger involved.

Kylie Jenner is one of Kardashian clan. The reality star's pouty smile is inspiring teens to suck the air out of shot glasses until the friction swells their lips. The practice has gone viral on social media. On Tuesday, after scores of posts showing teens trying to affect her look, she tweeted that she doesn't want to 'encourage girls to look like her.'

The so-called "Shot Glass Method" of plumping lips can cause broken blood vessels, bruising, or worse, disfigurement if the glass breaks. Cuts on the lips could require stitches.

The effect of the 'plumping' is temporary, but painful bruising and 'lip hickeys' can last for days.

Dermatologic surgeon Dendy Engelman told Seventeen Magazine this trend in DIY lip plumping is quite concerning. "There is potential risk for scarring and permanent disfigurement with repeated attempts."

Jenner continued her tweet, saying 'girls should not be afraid to experiment with their look' but they should be themselves.
