Jan Wahl Movie Review: 'Winter's Tale'
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— Winter's Tale is a mythical romance about a burglar (Colin Farrell) trying to win the heart of a woman (Jessica Brown Findlay) while battling evil forces (personified by Russell Crowe) along the way.
It's definitely a romance, but it's also a weird, bizarre film experience. This film takes you to a mythic New York City as the film begins to span more than a century. It's a tale of miracles, destiny and the battles between good and evil.
Based on Mark Helprin's novel this film has noble intentions. Colin Farrell is as good as he was in Saving Mr. Banks. He's a fine actor and he plays someone who wants to leave his criminal past behind him, but he falls in love with his doomed heiress. I'd say it's a supernatural exploration of the human soul.
