Burglar Nabs Ivory Figurines Worth $210,000 From Fisherman's Wharf Art Gallery
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Police are asking for the public's assistance to help find valuable ivory figurines that were stolen last month during a burglary at an art gallery in San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf.
The burglary occurred Aug. 18 in the 200 block of Jefferson Street, according to police.
The suspect was able to somehow enter the art gallery, and once inside, forced open cabinets and lockers containing the ivory figurines, police said.
The suspect was able to make off with more than 60 ivory figurines, which included figures of samurai soldiers and carvings of sceneries. The pieces are estimated to be worth a total of more than $210,000, according to police.
After an investigation, officers were able to identify 26-year-old Cameron Ybarra as the suspect.
Ybarra was already in police custody for a separate incident. He was subsequently charged with burglary in connection with the stolen figurines, police said.
Although police arrested Ybarra, they have since been unable to locate the stolen art.
