2.9 magnitude Sacramento Delta earthquake shakes same area as last week's quake
A small earthquake on Monday morning rattled the same area in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta where a 4.2 shaker hit last week.
The 2.9 magnitude quake struck at 7:42 a.m. Monday on Twitchell Island, about 3.5 miles south-southwest of the Sacramento County community of Iselton, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
The earthquake was initially reported to be a 4.0 magnitude but it was later downgraded. There were no reports of damage or injuries. There was an additional magnitude 2.5 aftershock an hour later.
On October 18, a 4.2 magnitude quake struck the same area, and triggered a ShakeAlert warning when it was initially reported as a 5.7 magnitude earthquake.

Last week's Delta earthquake also happened on the same week as the region marked 34 years since the Loma Prieta Earthquake, the strongest and most destructive earthquake to hit the Bay Area since 1906.
