Eastbound I-580 lanes blocked in Oakland due to police activity

OAKLAND -- Eastbound lanes of Interstate 580 were closed in Oakland on Saturday afternoon because of police activity in the area of Edwards Avenue.

All eastbound lanes were closed at about 3:30 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said in a traffic advisory. As of 7:20 p.m. the lanes were still blocked and traffic was being diverted at Seminary.

The southbound Highway 13 connector ramp to eastbound I-580 was also closed and that traffic was being diverted to Carson Street.

Drivers were asked  to use alternate routes to avoid the area. There was no estimated time to reopen the roadway.
