UPDATE All Clear Given After Gas Leak In San Francisco's Inner Richmond
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A gas leak in San Francisco's Inner Richmond neighborhood prompted some evacuations and a shelter-in-place order Thursday afternoon that was completely lifted shortly after 7 p.m.
Firefighters, police and PG&E crews responded to the area of 5th Avenue and Clement Street shortly after 3 p.m.
According to the city's Department of Emergency Management, Clement Street is closed between Arguello Boulevard and 7th Avenue. Pedestrians in the area have been told to evacuate, while residents and businesses are being told to shelter-in place as a precaution.
Firefighters said that an air-conditioned bus and the Red Cross will be on scene at 375 5th Avenue, which will be set up for a temporary shelter for those who are displaced.
Shortly before 6 p.m., PG&E crews located the source of the leak.
At 6:43 p.m., San Francisco Fire officials said that the shelter-in-place and evacuation orders were lifted for all areas except the 400 block of Clement and 200 block of 5th Avenue.
At 7:07 p.m., San Francisco Fire confirmed that the incident was resolved and all residents and business owners could return to those two remaining blocks.
San Francisco police later confirmed that 5th Avenue between Clement and Cornwall remained closed to vehicular traffic.
