Injury Crash Closes Lanes On I-80 In Richmond, Person Airlifted To Hospital
RICHMOND (CBS SF) -- All lanes of Interstate Highway 80 in Richmond have reopened Tuesday night following a collision in which at least one injured person was airlifted to a hospital, the California Highway Patrol said.
The crash was reported around 9:20 p.m. on westbound I-80 at the Solano Avenue overpass, the CHP said.
Authorities told KPIX 5 that a driver hit the center divide of the freeway, triggering a chain reaction that involved several other cars crashing into each other.
A Sigalert was initially issued at 9:37 p.m. and both directions of I-80 were completely closed down while emergency crews responded to the scene. The eastbound lanes reopened at about 10 p.m., the CHP said.
Two left lanes of westbound I-80 reopened at about 10:25 p.m., according to the CHP. All lanes reopened around 11:00 p.m.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
