UPDATE: I-880 Reopens Following Fatal Freeway Shooting, Solo Crash

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- A fatal freeway shooting and crash Friday evening forced an hours-long closure of northbound Interstate 880 in Oakland.

Responding to a solo-vehicle crash on northbound I-880 just north of Oak Street Friday at 5:15 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers determined the male driver had been shot.

According to the CHP, an investigation indicates that, after the shooting, the driver crashed into a guardrail and stopped. The victim -- the only person in the vehicle, was declared deceased at the scene.

Northbound I-880 traffic was closed for nearly five hours and reopened around 10 p.m.
