Infant Death At Napa Daycare Center Under Investigation

NAPA (CBS SF) -- Police in Napa on Thursday announced an investigation into the death of an infant at a daycare center, according to authorities.

In a press release issued Thursday, authorities said police, units from the Napa Fire Department and American Medical Response (AMR) responded to a call from a licensed family daycare home in the 3700 block of Oxford Street in Napa about an unconscious and unresponsive eight-month-old male infant.

Emergency responders from the Napa Fire Department arrived on the scene and pronounced the infant deceased. Napa police detectives responded as part of the investigation.

According to authorities, the infant had no obvious signs of trauma. The investigation into the infant's death is ongoing.

"The death of anyone is tragic, but it is especially painful when it involves a child," Napa police said in their press release. "Our deepest sympathies are with all the involved people touched by this tragedy, but in particular with the infant's family."

Anyone with information pertinent to the case should contact Detective Pete Piersig at 707-257-9514 or ppiersig@cityofnapa.org.
