I-5 Crash Survivor Credited With Saving Students Recalls Moments Of Fire
ORLAND, Glenn County (CBS SF) -- A young survivor of the I-5 bus crash that killed ten people is still recovering in the hospital, and telling his story of heartbreak and heroism during the moments after the crash.
Miles Hill was sitting near the front of the bus before the crash, and is being called a savior after knocking out a window that allowed dozens of people escape the flames after a FedEx truck collided head-on with the charter bus he was riding in to Humboldt State University.
"I have really bad nightmares about it. Every time I close my eyes, I just hear screaming. I hear boom. I see fire," Miles said from his hospital bed in Orville.
"I watched a person burn alive. I can never forget that," he said.
Miles is one of two survivors who remained hospitalized.
"It, it's surreal. I mean I survived a flaming bus that exploded and I was in front."
Miles is being credited with saving numerous students by kicking a hole in the window, but still felt it wasn't enough.
"I was like, I'm either going to die, or all these people are going to die. I'd much rather have it be me. If I could have saved them all, I would have."
