The California Highway Patrol has made over 300 arrests in Oakland since they're presence was drastically increased in July, Gov. Gavin Newsom said.

Two months after Newsom said he quadrupled the number of shifts officers would have in Oakland, he announced that 329 arrests were made, 606 stolen cars were recovered and 35 guns were seized.

"We are seeing progress, but our work is far from over. By stepping up enforcement and engaging in surge operations, we're continuing to make strides in addressing crime in Oakland," said CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee.

Oakland first received increased support from the CHP in February, with 120 officers being sent to the city. The initial support represented a nearly 900% increase in CHP presence in Oakland and within Oakland, according to the February announcement.

In a July update, Newsom credited the increased presence since February with the recovery of 1,142 stolen cars, the seizure of 55 guns linked to crimes and 562 arrested suspects. He then went on to announce he would again increase support for Oakland, with a four-month surge operation.

Newsom said the plan would focus on organized crime, sideshows, carjackings and other crimes.
