Bay Area Temperatures To Sizzle This Week; Excessive Heat Watch Issued
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Bay Are temperatures will soar beginning Monday and peaking by the middle of the week. Meanwhile, the National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for most of the San Francisco Bay Area for Tuesday and Wednesday.
Monday, high pressure and offshore winds will send temperatures 10 to 15 degrees above Sunday's highs. It will be sunny and in the 70s at the coast, 80s in the bay, and low 90s inland.
The peak of the heat will likely be Tuesday and Wednesday with some temps moving into the mid to upper 90s.
The sea breeze will return on Thursday to begin to cool the coast and bay.
Fog and low clouds will bring much cooler weather on Friday and into the weekend.
The heat wave will subside some on Thursday, which will still be a warm day, with highs that might be in the 90s in the East Bay.
The weather service's excessive heat watch does not include the coastlines of Sonoma, Marin and San Mateo counties and interior portions of Monterey and San Benito counties.
The hot weather also coincides with the Amgen Tour of California bike race that stretches between San Jose to Mount Diablo and begins on Tuesday. Race director Jim Burrell told KCBS that this year they will have a "mobile water fountain" in place.
