Hilary Duff Apologizes For Offensive Halloween Costume

By Ned Ehrbar

(CBS NEWS) – Hilary Duff was probably hoping for a different reaction to her red carpet debut with boyfriend Jason Walsh.

The "Younger" star took to social media Sunday to try to stamp out the controversy she and Walsh caused with their choice of Halloween costumes for a party Saturday. Duff donned a pilgrim costume, while Walsh dressed as a Native American chief, complete with headdress and warpaint.

While the couple seemed to enjoy themselves during the Beverly Hills party they attended, reactions to the look were quick -- and extremely negative. By Sunday, Duff found herself doing damage control.

"I am SO sorry to people I offended with my costume," she tweeted. "It was not properly thought through and I am truly, from the bottom of my [heart] sorry."

Walsh, a personal trainer, also apologized, posting a note to the Instagram account for his Rise Nation fitness organization.

"I meant no disrespect. I only have admiration for the indigenous people of America," he wrote. "In hindsight I would not have made that decision. I apologize to anyone I may have offended."
