UPDATE: Highway 29 reopens after hazmat spill near St. Helena cleaned up
ST. HELENA (CBS SF/BCN) - State Highway 29 in the area of St. Helena reopened Thursday afternoon after a hazardous materials spill caused an hours-long closure, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The highway was closed from Stice Lane to Whitehall Lane, the Napa County Sheriff's Office reported. There was another closure on northbound Highway 29 to Rutherford Crossing/state Highway 128.
CHP spokesman Officer Jaret Paulson reported that 5-gallon containers of a chemical fell from a vehicle into the roadway just after 9 a.m. Paulson did not know if there was a crash involved or what the chemical was.
Following clean-up crews clearing the roadway, Highway 29 opened and traffic resumed around 12:45 p.m.
