High Surf Advisory In Effect For Bay Area Coast Through Sunday Morning, 15 Foot Waves Possible
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A high surf advisory has been issued for the coast stretching from Sonoma County to Big Sur through early Sunday morning.
The weather service declared the advisory early Friday morning and it continues through Sunday at 6 a.m.
Waves are estimated to reach 10 to 15 feet, with combined seas over 15 feet possible, the weather service said. High surf can often lead to riptides and can be powerful enough to snap a surfboard in half.
If you are caught in a riptide, the weather service said not to swim against it and instead swim parallel to shore until you are free of the current.
