Vandal Rides Golf Cart Into Hercules Middle School, Damages Cafeteria

HERCULES (CBS SF) – Officials at Hercules Middle School arrived Monday morning to discover the school's cafeteria had been damaged after someone allegedly sneaked into it and drove a golf cart inside, according to police.

Around 10:15 a.m. Monday, officers responded to a report of vandalism at the school located at 1900 Refugio Valley Road, police said.

When officers arrived, they did not find any signs of forced entry, according to police.

After a preliminary investigation, officers determined someone entered the locked cafeteria sometime between 4 p.m. Friday and 7:15 a.m.  Monday. The suspect then took a golf cart, which had been parked inside the cafeteria, and drove it around, damaging the floors, police said.

Additionally, the suspect cut a locking wheel boot off the golf cart. The boot was found discarded outside the school, according to police.

Although classes have not yet started at the school, a registration event was scheduled Tuesday morning inside the school's cafeteria, according to the school's website.

It was not immediately clear if the vandalism incident affected the registration event.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact Hercules police at (510) 799-8260.
