Heat Wave Brings Triple-Digit Temperatures To Bay Area
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A heatwave is bringing triple-digit temperatures to Bay Area cities Tuesday.
Temperatures will be in the 90s by the bay, in the 80s along the coast, and as high as 108 in some inland areas.
There is a heat advisory in effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. It affects much of the San Francisco Bay area away from the Pacific Coast and all interior valley locations. Residents are advised to drink plenty of water and check on children, elderly people and pets. Wear lightweight clothing.
Records are expected in Oakland and other cities Tuesday.
The Bay Area Air Quality Management District issued a Spare the Air Alert for Tuesday because of a high-pressure system producing clear skies, light winds and high inland temperatures.
This is the fifth such alert so far in 2015, according to air district officials.
The hot weather is expected to result in smoggy conditions throughout the region, according to air district executive director Jack Broadbent.
"Motor vehicle exhaust is the number one source of smog-forming pollution, so we're asking Bay Area residents to share rides, take transit, bike or walk to help keep pollution levels down," Broadbent said in a statement.
The high temperatures will last throughout the week.
