Health Advisory Issued After Flare-Up At Phillips 66 Refinery in Rodeo

RODEO (CBS SF) -- Hazardous materials officials lifted a health alert Sunday afternoon for the Rodeo community in Contra Costa County, a Contra Costa County hazmat official said.

Hazmat officials lifted the alert at 4:58 p.m. after firefighters extinguished a fire at the Phillips 66 refinery at 1380 San Pablo Ave.

Firefighters extinguished the fire at 4:20 p.m., Phillips 66 spokesman Paul Adler said.

Hazmat officials issued the health advisory after they received a report at 3:13 p.m. of a flare up at the refinery, chief environmental health and hazardous materials Officer Randy Sawyer said.

The fire started at about 3 p.m., Adler said. The fire caused no injuries, he said.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Sawyer said people can go about their normal business. He said the hazmat team will continue to monitor the situation.
