Hazmat Scare Prompts Evacuation Of Building Across Street From AT&T Park; Package Turns Out To Be Bottle Of Booze

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- A large building in the China Basin neighborhood of San Francisco was briefly evacuated Tuesday morning for an investigation into a suspicious package, which ended up simply being a bottle of booze.

The San Francisco Fire Department was called to the China Basin Building at 185 Berry Street, across from AT&T Park.  A hazardous materials team, bomb squad and the Department of Public Health responded hours before the ballpark would host Game 4 of the National League Division Series between the Giants and the Washington Nationals.

Fire officials said they got the call just before 10 a.m. about a suspicious package on the building's loading dock.

Berry Street between 3rd and 4th Street were closed to traffic. Workers were allowed to return to the evacuated building around noon.
