Hayward Police Raid Massive Marijuana Grow, Seize Estimated $15 Million In Plants
HAYWARD (CBS SF) – Three people have been arrested and charged in connection with a raid on a Hayward warehouse growing operation that appears to be the largest in the city's history, police said Wednesday.
Narcotics investigators served a search warrant at the 44,000 square foot warehouse in the 3100 block of Diablo Avenue on June 4 around 5:30 p.m., police said Wednesday.
Inside, they found nearly 13,000 marijuana plants at all stages of growth, elaborate hydroponics, lighting and ventilation systems as well as illegal electrical connections. The warehouse also had a room for harvesting and packaging, a living space and a surveillance and security system.
Officers arrested Hayward resident Manh Tran, 28, Oakland resident Troy Tam, 21, and Alameda resident Tony Hoang, 22. All three have been charged by the Alameda County District Attorney's Office with felony marijuana cultivation and sales, police said today.
Police estimated the cost of setting up the growing operation at in excess of $100,000, and set the street value of the marijuana seized in the raid at $15 million.
