UPDATE: Suspect Dead, Officer Wounded After Gunfire Erupts At Motel 6 In Hayward
HAYWARD (CBS SF/BCN) -- A suspect is dead and an officer was hospitalized after gunfire erupted at a Motel 6 in Hayward Tuesday afternoon.
The shooting happened at the motel in the 30000 block of Industrial Parkway SW, police said in a tweet around 2:15 p.m., asking people to avoid the area.

Officers responded to a tip that a car parked at the hotel matched the description of a vehicle suspected in a series of robberies there dating back to December.
When police arrived, an confrontation ensued. One officer was shot and a male suspect was wounded.
According to police, the suspect later died from his injuries. So far, authorities have not released his identity.
