Hayward Man In Custody After San Francisco Hit-And-Run, Driving Rampage
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— A Hayward man was arrested Monday after a series of hit and run crashes in San Francisco Sunday night. According to police two pedestrians were injured before the driver's alleged rampage where he damaged property with his car came to an end.
Authorities identified the suspect as 26-year-old Edwin Delatorre who was taken into custody in Hayward.
According to SFPD Officer Gordon Shyy the series of crashes began without injury. Shyy said police responded to two property-damage only collisions at 8:30 p.m.
One was at Parc 55 Hotel. The second was a Muni bus at Mason and Eddy where the Tenderloin meets Union Square.
Shyy said the suspect fled the scene of those two crashes in a red Mustang and ran a red light at Market and 5th streets. He then hit a pedestrian who has been hospitalized at San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The suspect hit a second pedestrian at Market and Kearney Streets, according to Shyy. He then abandoned his vehicle near the intersection of Kearney and Pine streets.
"He was arrested and booked on a number of charges and they include two counts of felony hit and run, two counts of misdemeanor hit and run, reckless driving, speeding and running a red light," Shyy said.
The incident is under investigation. Police did not have a motive nor have they released the identities of the pedestrians who were hit.
