Will it rain on Halloween in the Bay Area? What trick-or-treaters can expect.
Halloween trick-or-treaters in the Bay Area will be eyeing the skies Thursday evening following a cold weather front that passed through overnight.
The National Weather Service said Thursday that widespread showers had moved out by the morning with totals well below a tenth of an inch. The exception was in the North Bay, where most sites saw between 0.15 to 0.25 inches of rain. Trailing showers in Marin County resulted in even higher totals of 0.3 inches and higher, the Weather Service said.
Halloween forecast
Even though the cold front has moved south of the Bay Area, the Weather Service said lingering scattered showers may still be possible across the North Bay. However, in its forecast discussion Thursday, the Weather Service said whatever precipitation remaining by sundown would only amount to a few hundredths of an inch and not dampen Halloween fun for trick-or-treaters.
"To the pleasure of anyone partaking in the time honored tradition of trick or treating, guidance has been trending drier
everywhere Thursday evening just in time for festivities to begin," the forecast discussion said.
Across the Bay Area, conditions will generally dry out by the afternoon/evening hours.

Temps cool for ghouls
Thursday morning temperatures were chilly again, in the upper 40s mostly, while the North Bay valleys and interior Monterey/San Benito counties dipped into the 30s to low 40s. Thursday afternoon highs were to remain about 5 to 10 degrees below average with most inland sites in the mid 60s and most coastal sites in the upper 50s to low 60s, the Weather Service said.
For Halloween night, trick-or-treaters should add a layer to their costumes. Temperatures are expected to drop into the mid to upper 50s across the Bay Area and will continue to drop into the low 50s to upper 40s by 9 p.m.
Below-average temperatures were expected to continue with most sites seeing morning lows in the 40s and high temperatures about 5 to 15 degrees below average.
Here comes even more rain
"If you find yourself saying "trick or treat" to your local meteorologist, you just may receive the treat of widespread rain showers returning Friday into Saturday in lieu of candy," the Weather Service forecast discussion said Thursday.
The next round of showers is expected late Friday morning into early Saturday afternoon and will bring higher rain totals compared to the front that just passed. The Weather Service said up to half an inch of rain was expected across the Bay Area and Central Coast, again with higher totals in the North Bay and coastal mountain ranges.
Friday's system had a slight chance of additional instability in the form of thunderstorms, with an increased likelihood by last Friday afternoon across the North Bay and gradually moving south Friday night into Saturday. The storm is expected to taper off by late Saturday evening.
Gusty onshore winds were also expected, the Weather Service said, especially across elevated terrain and gaps and passes where gusts up to 30 mph are possible.
The pattern is expected to shift back to warmer and drier conditions Sunday with the potential for strong offshore wind development, raising some potential fire weather concerns early next week.
