Gunman In Standoff With Police At Mountain View Home; Neighbors Evacuated

MOUNTAIN VIEW (CBS SF) -- Mountain View police were trying to convince a barricaded armed man to surrender Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The incident started at 12:51 p.m. when police received a call from a person who said they were concerned about a man who was depressed inside a home in the 1000 block of Williams Way, police spokesman Shino Tanaka said.

Officers who are trained hostage negotiators were talking to the man from outside the residence Wednesday afternoon, Tanaka said.

"We would like to get him out safely and later talk through whatever might be ailing him," Tanaka said.

The man remains barricaded inside, has refused to leave and at one point brandished a firearm, according to Tanaka.

He had his teen daughter with him at the home but authorities were able to get her out safely, police said.

Police also evacuated five or six neighbors out of concern for their safety, Tanaka said.
