Google Threatened with $100 Million Lawsuit After Celebrity Nude Photo Leak
MOUNTAIN VIEW (RADIO.COM) – A New York-based lawyer is bringing a potential lawsuit against Google on behalf of over a dozen celebrities who had nude photos leaked over the past month.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marty Singer of Lavely & Singer is threatening a $100 million lawsuit against the media giant for "despicable, reprehensible conduct in not only failing to act expeditiously and responsibly to remove the Images, but in knowingly accommodating, facilitating and perpetuating the unlawful conduct."
The news comes after dozens of intimate photos were leaked via an apparent hack into iCloud accounts. Ariana Grande, Avril Lavigne and Rihanna were among those who purportedly had nude photos leaked onto the Internet, as were actresses such as Jennifer Lawrence.
Singer said Google's fault lies in not removing content outlined in the safe harbor guidelines in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, while others like Twitter have reportedly complied with takedowns of the content.
