Golden Gate Bridge Police Receiving Weapons Training To Keep Landmark Safe

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- The Golden Gate Bridge police force is receiving weapons training to ensure the security of the national landmark.

The 32-member team that protects the bridge has weapons training on a regular basis.

"We've been a terrorist target for many years, since 9/11," Golden Gate Bridge Police Captain Lisa Locati told KCBS.

The training will be given by a third-party contractor.

"The reason we contract with a third party is that some laws do change, some timing of training changes. It's a cumbersome project...I liken it to going to your doctor, who doesn't want to deal with the insurance companies, because those forms keep changing," Locati said.

So, it's more efficient to have a company that's focused on paperwork, and overseeing training.
