Get Ready To Set Your Clocks Back This Sunday

KPIX 5 Morning Weather Anchor Roberta Gonzales answers the questions you never get to ask on-air.

Q: Roberta, why the change in clocks? Dan Garcia; Corte Madera
A: Good question! Daylight Saving Time ends this Sunday, Nov. 1 at 2 a.m.

First let me explain why we change our clocks BACK one full hour this Sunday at 2 a.m. You may see it written or articulated as "Daylight Savings Time," but this is incorrect. There is NO "s" at the end of "savings." The justification is "saving" is a present participle, and this "time" is for saving daylight; thus it is incorrect to use the plural noun "savings."Glad I got that off my chest!

According to Wonderopolis, the idea of "Daylight Saving Time" was first suggested by Benjamin Franklin in 1784 and later proposed to British Parliament by Englishman William Willett 1907. To learn more about how it came about click here.

Do you like Daylight Saving Time? And if so, why? Or do you prefer when it ends, such as this Sunday? I would love to hear your thoughts! Please email Gonzales@kpix.cbs.com
