Update: Shelter-in-place order lifted after gas main break in Kensington
KENSINGTON — A shelter-in-place order issued Tuesday morning for an area of Kensington because of a gas main break has been lifted, according to police.
Kensington police issued an alert shortly after 9:15 a.m. about the gas main break at a construction site in the area of Cambridge and Yale avenues.
People living in the area were ordered to shelter in place and motorists were advised to avoid the area while crews from the East Bay Municipal Utility District and PG&E responded to the scene of the main break.
As of 11:45 a.m., the shelter-in-place order was lifted, though people are still being asked to avoid the area since repair work will keep the roadways closed into the evening hours.
