Garbage Truck Hits Utility Pole, Knocking Power To Nearly 1K San Jose Homes

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- About 850 homes are without power Thursday evening in East San Jose after a garbage truck struck a utility pole, bringing down power lines earlier in the day, according to PG&E officials.

Around 3:02 p.m., the garbage truck brought down the power lines near Story Road and Feller Avenue, initially leaving about 1,200 customers without power, PG&E spokesman J.D. Guidi said.

The outage is currently affecting residents in the city's Alum Rock neighborhood, near Alum Rock and Fleming avenues.

PG&E crews are currently working on the downed power lines and hope to restore service to all customers by about 9 p.m. Thursday evening, according to Guidi.
