UPDATE: Fremont Police Fatally Shoot Suspect Under Surveillance in Hotel Parking Lot

FREMONT (CBS SF) -- Police in Fremont shot and killed a man in a hotel parking lot Thursday evening during a surveillance operation.

Police said the officer-involved shooting happened at around 6:25 p.m. Thursday evening in the parking lot of the Hyatt Place Hotel located at 3101 West Warren Avenue.

According to police, a male suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured in the incident.

In a news conference Thursday night, Fremont police captain Sean Washington told reporters that two detectives involved in the shooting had been surveilling the man, who had several outstanding felony warrants.

Capt. Washington said detectives attempted to take the suspect into custody but, when he refused to comply, a K-9 officer was deployed.

"During the confrontation," Washington continued, "two police detectives fired their service weapons at the suspect."

The police have not identified the deceased suspect nor have they identified the officers who shot him.

Soraya Bokaie was working in her food truck in the hotel parking lot when the shooting happened.

"I definitely heard three (shots)," Bokaie said. "Pop. Pop. Pop."

This is the third shooting Fremont police officers have been involved in this year.

Representatives with the department told KPIX it was concerning because the level of gun violence is going up around the country and there are "individuals out there in our society that want to take on and kill our police officers."
