Free Weekend As National Park Service Turning 100-Years Old
The federal agency oversees 131,000 square miles of parks, battlefields and other landmarks across the country and in four U.S. territories.
The Service has plenty to celebrate, as more people than ever are visiting their parks.
But, it has challenges as well, including figuring out how best to reach out to minority communities to get as many Americans as possible interested in visiting, and preserving national parks.
The Park Service is working on it. So far, it's established efforts to recruit minority interns, and is producing videos and brochures for Spanish speaking visitors and potential visitors.
Find more information on the Park Service's birthday, and when you can visit for free on their site.
