Red Sox Bench Former Giants Star Pablo Sandoval For Using Instagram During Game

BOSTON (CBS SF) – It has been a rough start in Boston for former San Francisco Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval.

Now, he's been benched for Thursday night's game against the Atlanta Braves, for using Instagram during Wednesday's 5-2 loss.

The news was first reported by Jared Carrabis, a Red Sox blogger for Barstool Sports.

The team's website said Sandoval owned up to manager John Farrell and the media before Thursday's game. Carrabis reports that Sandoval's agent and brother both have access to his Instagram account, but the time he liked the two photos on Instagram lines up with when he would have been off the field.

Sandoval had been having a rough start on the field, with his batting average dipping as low as .239 as late as June 9. But his average is back up to .270 following an eight game hitting streak, with a .452 batting average over that span.

Sandoval spent his first seven years with the Giants, before signing a five-year deal worth $95 million in the off-season with Boston.
