Former 49ers President Says NFL Will Likely Return To L.A.; Raiders Included

LOS ANGELES (KCBS)— The possibility of NFL games being played in the Los Angeles area once again is becoming more likely. Former San Francisco 49ers President Carmen Policy has been tapped by the Oakland Raiders and the San Diego Chargers to help promote the construction of a $1.7 billion stadium in the city of Carson.

Policy joined John Madden on his daily KCBS morning segment and said the owners of the teams have the 160-acre Carson site totally entitled and no further legislative action is needed.

"Wednesday morning, deeds went to record that now provide the City of Carson and the sports entity that they're going to create, all the land, wrapped up and truly, truly ready to go. They're going to follow the course that the 49ers used in Santa Clara. That's going to be the structure that they're going to use."

The owner of St. Louis Rams also is looking at Los Angeles. He is part of a development group planning to build an 80,000-seat stadium in Inglewood, about 10 miles from downtown Los Angeles.

Policy expects the NFL to announce a decision on all of this within the next six months.
