Firefighter Injured Battling 4-Alarm Grass Fire In Moraga
MORAGA (CBS SF) -- A firefighter received a minor injury battling a four-alarm grass fire in Moraga Thursday afternoon, according to officials with the Moraga-Orinda Fire Protection District.
Firefighters responded to a report of a grass fire behind a row of houses on Natalie Drive around 12:30 p.m., Fire Chief Stephen Healy said.
The fire spread up and over an open hillside into a cattle ranch but Healy said the fire did not threaten any of the livestock or damage any houses in the area.
One firefighter suffered a minor injury as a result of the blaze, according to fire officials.
It also produced a significant amount of smoke that wafted into Lafayette and Walnut Creek. Healy advised anyone with sensitivity to smoke to remain indoors until evening winds could clear the air.
Healy said he was "thankful" the fire spread into the open area as opposed to the neighborhood and said fire crews were helped by slightly lower temperatures today and only light winds.
Firefighters from the Contra Costa County and the San Ramon Valley fire protection districts, Cal Fire and the East Bay Regional Park District all helped extinguish the blaze.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, Healy said.
