3-Alarm Fire Burns 2 Buildings at West Oakland Recycling Center

OAKLAND (CBS SF) -- Nearly 60 Oakland firefighters remained on scene Saturday afternoon at a three-alarm fire at a recycling facility in west Oakland adjacent to Interstate 880.

On the fire department's Twitter account, fire officials said the firefighters from 19 Oakland fire units had contained the fire at the California Waste Solutions recycling facility at 1820 10th St., near Pine Street. Crews continued to put water on the recycling materials stacked inside the facility and on the recycling pile in the yard, where the fire continued to burn.

There was no time estimate as to when the fire would be extinguished.

The fire began about 2 p.m. in two buildings on the property with an additional structure threatened and a large recycling pile burning in the yard.

The California Highway Patrol said late Saturday afternoon that the fire never affected traffic on Interstate 880, which is immediately adjacent to the recycling facility.
