3-alarm fire burns apartment, other buildings in SF Sunset District

SAN FRANCISCO — A 3-alarm fire that burned an apartment building in San Francisco's Inner Sunset was contained Tuesday night, according to fire officials.

Fire Department spokesperson Captain Jonathan Baxter said the fire -- which sent 100 firefighters to battle the blaze -- was contained at 10:15 p.m.

At 8:30 p.m., San Francisco Fire said the fire was 2-alarm with "heavy fire" on the second floor of a three-story apartment complex at 1279 8th Ave and the 700 block of Irving Street. 

Baxter said there was also a hardware store involved in the fire as well as a shed behind the store. 

There were no reported injuries. In the end, the fire affected three structures and caused exterior damage to a fourth structure. Seven residents of the apartment building were displaced.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
