Crews stop forward progress of fire near Brentwood

Fire crews in Contra Costa County stopped forward progress of a fire near Brentwood on Wednesday and fully contained it by Thursday morning.

Contra Costa Fire said the fire was near Deer Valley Road and Empire Mine Road. It had burned 100 acres by 4:30 p.m., when forward progress was stopped by fire crews. The fire had a rapid rate of spread when it was first reported, according to officials.

Aerial footage of the fire showed crews had dropped flame retardant between the fire and nearby homes. Contra Costa Fire and Cal Fire crews worked on fire response.

Just before 5:30 p.m., Cal Fire said the fire had burned 255 acres, and containment was at 60%. Crews were able to increase containment to 75% by 7 p.m.

By Thursday morning, containment had reached 100% and Cal Fire said better mapping indicated the final acreage burned was 250 acres.
