Fire sweeps through abandoned commercial building in downtown Concord

A vacant building in Concord that was under construction has "significant structural instabilities after multiple collapses" due to an overnight fire, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District said Tuesday morning.

Firefighters were called at 10:24 p.m. Monday to the commercial building near Sunset Avenue and East Street.

A second alarm was called and more than 55 firefighters fought the blaze, which the fire district said was under control after about two and a half hours.

No injuries were reported.

Fire personnel were still on the scene throughout the morning and multiple streets in the downtown area were still closed. Investigators said they hadn't determined the cause of the fire yet.

The following roads were closed:
- Clayton Road and Oakland Avenue
- Clayton Road and Grant Street
- Park and Grant streets
- Colfax Street and Concord Boulevard
- East Street and Concord Boulevard
