Fights At Packed NorCal Shopping Mall Force Early Closure

SACRAMENTO (CBS/AP) -- Authorities said they had to stop two brawls among shoppers at a packed Northern California mall on the day after Christmas.

The Arden Fair Mall in Sacramento closed more than an hour early because of the repeated fights.

The newspaper reports that two groups of more than 20 people confronted each other in the mall's upstairs food court.

Mall security chief Steve Reed says that nobody was hurt, but two people were taken to jail.

Sacramento Police dispatch supervisor Priscilla Gomez says mall security and a dozen city police officers rushed to the scene; they moved the crowd downstairs.

She says that 90 minutes later the second melee broke out in the same area, sending officers back to break up the fight.
