5th Officer Placed On Administrative Leave In OPD Sex Scandal
OAKLAND (CBS/AP) -- Officials say a fifth Oakland police officer has been placed on administrative leave as news that a sexual misconduct scandal has spread to other area departments.
The news comes just days after Police Chief Sean Whent abruptly resigned. Police have not named the officers.
Celeste Guap, the woman at the center of the sex scandal is claiming she had sex with two dozen current and former officers in five cities.
Guap told KPIX 5 that she slept with three of the 24 officers before she turned 18 last August. Amid allegations of statutory rape, she has also produced text messages that reveal officers gave her undercover operations intel.
The scandal has sent shockwaves through the law enforcement community with departments vowing to investigate the allegations of officer misconduct.
Whent stepped down Thursday and gave no specific reason for his resignation. Multiple believe the department's federal overseer, Robert Warshaw, pressured him to resign.
On Saturday Oakland Mayor Libby Shaaf released a statement vowing a complete investigation, saying "we are doing everything we can to ensure it will result in the most serious punishment and consequences allowable by law."
