Feds Set To Green-Light Silicon Valley Startup's Moon Mission

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A group of space entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley are on the brink of making commercial spaceflight history.

The federal government is set to approve plans by Moon Express to land its unmanned suitcase-size MX-1 on the moon next year.

The small Mountain View-based startup plans to deliver a 20-pound package of scientific hardware to the Moon. The mission will take about 2 weeks.

The Federal Aviation Administration regulates U.S. rocket launches and clearance could come any day, according to the Wall Street Journal.
