Pedestrian Killed By Vehicle While Crossing Almaden Expressway In San Jose
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- Police are investigating an accident in which a man was hit by a car Sunday night on the Almaden Expressway north of Curtner Avenue south of downtown San Jose.
Police Officer Gina Tepoorten said that about 6:15 p.m., the man was crossing Almaden Expressway on foot at Canoas Garden Avenue, about 800 feet north of Curtner, when a 2007 Toyota Camry driven by a woman hit the man.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver has been cooperative with police, said Tepoorten, who added that neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be factors in the accident. The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after they confirm the victim's identity and notify next of kin, Tepoorten said.
Sunday's was San Jose's 49th fatal traffic collision in 2019; the victim was the city's 51st fatality of the year, and 22nd pedestrian.Anyone with information about this accident is asked to contact Detective Matt Templeman of the San Jose Police Department's Traffic Investigations Unit at (408) 277-4654.
Almaden Expressway is closed in both directions between Highway 87 and Ironwood Drive, and is expected to remain so until about 1 a.m. Monday, Tepoorten said.
