Fairfield Firefighters Knock Down 3-Alarm Brush Fire Near Travis AFB

FAIRFIELD (CBS SF) -- Firefighters appear to have knocked down a three-alarm vegetation fire that destroyed one outbuilding early Friday evening, according to authorities.

The Fairfield Fire Department Twitter account posted about the fire burning near Markley and Vandan roads at around 5:30 p.m.

The fire -- named the Markley Fire -- is burning in Solano County with a rapid rate of spread, according to authorities. The fire has burned about five acres so far.

Travis Air Force Base was notified because the fire is burning towards the base's property.

The fire came dangerously close to a home on Markeley Lane, but fire crews appear to have managed to knock it down in time.

The fire burned at least one outbuilding, leaving behind a charred shell.

Crews were still dousing some flames and hot spots across the street from Vanden High School. The Fairfield Fire Department has not confirmed that the fire is under control yet, but crews seem to have the upper hand.
