Execution-Style Shooting Leaves College Student Dead In San Jose
SAN JOSE (KPIX 5) -- San Jose investigators want to know what led up to an execution-style shooting that killed a college student.
Police say the shooting happened last Saturday night on Lyndale Avenue near Story Road in East San Jose.
18-year-old Cruz Antonio's death was as brutal, police say as his life was brief.
"The victim's in the neighborhood minding his own business, walking. For someone to come by, stop the car and basically ambush him, that's pretty sick," San Jose police Sgt. Enrique Garcia said.
As the gunmen sped off, Cruz was left lying in the street, bleeding to death.
Paramedics managed to get him to the hospital where Cruz, who family members describe as "full of life," would later die.
Neighbors were stunned and saddened by what's being described as an execution-style murder.
"This guy was just going for a walk. It's so senseless. Overall, this is a nice area. I just can't understand why this would happen," Neighbor Joanna Burgara said.
Investigators say they don't have many leads, and don't know what triggered the shooting. They don't know if the gunmen knew the victim, but say they are left with the inescapable fact that they killed in cold blood, and could do it again.
"Make no mistake about it, there's a killer on the loose. There's someone who just got away with murder. And it's incumbent on people in our community who have information to reach out to our police department," Sgt. Garcia said.
