One Escaped Palo Alto Courthouse Inmate Captured; Second Eludes CHP In Stockton

STOCKTON (KPIX) -- One of the Palo Alto courthouse escapees has been captured, but the second eluded police after a pursuit Stockton.

The CHP officers captured Tramel McClough while John Bivins was cornered but he got away on foot after a short chase along Interstate 5.

It happened around 5 p.m. after CHP units tried to pull over a car traveling on I-5, when it took off.

Officers followed the car to a Walmart where McClough bailed and was arrested. Meanwhile, Bivins took the wheel and fled.

Officer later cornered the driver, Bivins, on Trinity Parkway. That's when gunfire erupted.

Witnesses captured the shots being fired as officers screamed at the man to stay down. Bivins didn't, and managed to get away.

Meantime, investigators released a surveillance photo of Bivins taken at a convenience store along with a photo of an SUV. They say he may be driving a green, 1999 Ford Explorer with the license plates 7TYY505.

Police advise anyone who sees him or the vehicle to call 911 immediately.
