Elk Grove Sporting Goods Store Owner Takes Down Confederate Flag Citing Death Threats

ELK GROVE (CBS/AP) -- A Confederate flag has been taken down at a Northern California store after the business owners received multiple death threats.

The flag was hanging above the front door of Wild Bill's Old West Trading Company in Elk Grove. The store owner's moved it inside after a protest outside the store last week.

The owners of Wild Bill's told KCRA-TV they took it down Friday after receiving death threats. They say they have no plans to eventually put the flag back up.

A police report has been filed with the Elk Grove Police Department concerning the death threats.

The flag became controversial following last month's deadly church shooting in South Carolina. On Friday, the Confederate flag on the grounds of the South Carolina state Capitol was removed after 54 years at the location.
