Both Drivers Recovering In Hospital After Surviving Head-On Collision In Petaluma
PETALUMA (CBS SF) -- Two drivers injured in a head-on collision on Lakeville Highway in Petaluma on Saturday night remain in the hospital Sunday and a passenger was treated and released, according to police.
Police said the head-on crash involving a Hyundai Accent and a Toyota minivan occurred Saturday around 9:15 p.m. on Lakeville Highway between Pineview Way and Browns Lane.
Emergency responders arrived on scene and found a 20-year-old woman and 23-year-old passenger inside the Hyundai as well as a 50-year-old woman inside the minivan, all suffering from major injuries, according to police.
All three victims were taken to hospitals. The two drivers underwent surgery for multiple fractures to the legs and torso and are expected to recover, police said.
The passenger injured in the crash was treated and released from the hospital.
Police said alcohol does not appear to have played a role in the crash.
The collision appears to have happened after the 20-year-old driver was heading west on Lakeville Highway and moved her car to the right, veering onto the roadway's shoulder, police said.
Police said the woman then over-corrected, shifting into an eastbound lane of traffic and crashing head-on into the minivan.
The roadway was closed for several hours during the police investigation.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Petaluma police officer Dustin Rodrigues at (707) 778-4373.
