Horse Critically Injured In Contra Costa Hit-And-Run

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY (CBS SF) -- Investigators are looking for a driver who fled after slamming into the back of a horse trailer and critically injuring a horse Tuesday morning in unincorporated Contra Costa County, officials with the California Highway patrol said.

A gray Toyota Tundra slammed into the trailer at about 7:30 a.m. on Kirker Pass Road near Hess Road. The horse is not expected to survive its injuries.

Before a CHP officer arrived, someone driving a white sedan picked up the driver of the Toyota and the two left the area, according to CHP officials.

The officials described the driver of the Toyota as a Hispanic man with a shaved head and tattoos up both arms to his neck.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or knows anything about it is being asked to call the CHP Contra Costa area office at (925) 646-4980.
