Driver Who Hurt Woman At Comic Con 'Zombie Walk' In San Diego Charged With Felony
SAN DIEGO (CBS SF) -- A man who drove into a crowd at the annual Zombie Walk during San Diego's Comic-Con last summer, seriously injuring a woman, will face a felony charge.
The Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday that Matthew Pocci Jr. faces a charge of reckless driving causing bodily injury. The 48-year-old will be arraigned March 9.
Police said Pocci, who is deaf, inched through the large crowd after small children in his car became frightened of participants wearing zombie makeup.
Some crowd members became angry, surrounded the car, climbed on it and smashed the windshield. Police said Pocci then sped up to flee and sideswiped a 64-year-old woman, who fell under the car.
Pocci's lawyer, Dan Gilleon, told the Times that prosecutors decided to file a charge "even though cops admitted the deaf driver was scared after being swarmed."
The injured woman was not part of the zombie walk.
Pocci has filed a claim with the city, charging that police did not adequately supervise the Zombie Walk.
